Instagram is No Longer Recommending Reels with TikTok Watermark

In a post on the @Creators’ account yesterday, Instagram listed the new Do’s and Don’ts for getting your Reels noticed and recommended to others on the platform. The Do’s are a mix of things users already know: be fun, be creative, use vertical videos and use music from IG.

However, there is one Don’t that sticks out: “Don’t post a reel that is visibly recycled from other apps (i.e. contains logos or watermarks).”

Translation: TikToks will no longer “be recommended as often” as original IG Reels to people who don’t follow you.

Burn.

Other don’ts include: blurry videos, borders, and too much text.

Reels were slow to catch on because users complained it wasn’t as user-friendly as TikTok. Even months later, that complaint is still there, but content creators have been forced to include Reels in their content list because IG has been stressing how important they are to the new algorithm, which was basically their way of putting Reels front and center whether users liked it or not.

The solution for creators and influencers was to just create their short form video content on TikTok and repurpose it across multiple platforms. This new development will force them to create two types of short form video content in order to maximize reach on both platforms (and most probably tick them off).

And all the while TikTok is laid back and chilling.
